I studied Electrical Engineering at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany. Having early focussed on the field of Optics, I continued with a 2-years Master of Optics and Photonics in the prestigious Erasmus Mundus Master Europhotonics, which resulted in a triple degree from the KIT, the Université Aix-Marseille, France and the Universitat Politecnica de Barcelona, Spain.
At the University of Southampton, I am currently doing a PhD in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, working on a joint project between ECS and Physics. My field is Nanophotonics, with a focus on optical nanoantennas. In my PhD I am working on the electrical modulation of plasmonic structures, a new method to tune plasmonic behaviour and achieve novel effects.
Simulations are a large part of my work, where I use Lumerical FDTD to simulate the optical properties of my structures. I also work intensely of the implementation of Lumerical DEVICE, an electrical FEM solver that enables the direct conversion of voltage-induced charge distribution into refractive index perturbations.
