--- abstract: 'In a recent paper, Flament et al (1999) studied the learning to flex the elbow fast. They concluded from their data that time-related parameters (e.g. movement time) changed faster during learning than magnitude-related parameters (e.g. peak velocity), and discussed this finding in terms of neural substrates responsible for the apparently different learning mechanisms. In this note, I will argue that finding different time constants does not imply different learning mechanisms. I will give a theoretical example of the development of parameters during learning to move faster. Despite the fact that I model only one learning process, various kinematic parameters show different time courses of learning. The differences the model predicts are comparable with the experimental results.' altloc: - http://www.eur.nl/fgg/fys/smeets/movement_parameters.pdf - http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s002210000409 chapter: ~ commentary: ~ commref: ~ confdates: ~ conference: ~ confloc: ~ contact_email: ~ creators_id: [] creators_name: - family: Smeets given: Jeroen B.J. honourific: '' lineage: '' date: 2000 date_type: published datestamp: 2000-05-12 department: ~ dir: disk0/00/00/01/44 edit_lock_since: ~ edit_lock_until: ~ edit_lock_user: ~ editors_id: [] editors_name: [] eprint_status: archive eprintid: 144 fileinfo: /style/images/fileicons/application_pdf.png;/144/3/movement_parameters.pdf full_text_status: public importid: ~ institution: ~ isbn: ~ ispublished: ~ issn: ~ item_issues_comment: [] item_issues_count: 0 item_issues_description: [] item_issues_id: [] item_issues_reported_by: [] item_issues_resolved_by: [] item_issues_status: [] item_issues_timestamp: [] item_issues_type: [] keywords: Human motor learning kinematics speed amplitude EMG acceleration arm movement minimum jerk model cerebellum basal ganglia timing lastmod: 2011-03-11 08:53:42 latitude: ~ longitude: ~ metadata_visibility: show note: ~ number: ~ pagerange: ~ pubdom: FALSE publication: ~ publisher: ~ refereed: TRUE referencetext: ~ relation_type: [] relation_uri: [] reportno: ~ rev_number: 12 series: ~ source: ~ status_changed: 2007-09-12 16:24:17 subjects: - behav-neuro-sci - bio-behav - dev-psy - neuro-physio succeeds: ~ suggestions: ~ sword_depositor: ~ sword_slug: ~ thesistype: ~ title: The relation between movement parameters and motor learning. type: preprint userid: 463 volume: ~
