--- abstract: | The syllable structure of Dschang is interesting for a variety of reasons. Most notable is the aspiration which can appear on most consonant types, including voiced stops. I shall argue that aspiration is best viewed as moraic, contributing to the weight of a syllable. An understanding of the syllable structure also gives valuable insights into the phonemic inventory and the distributional asymmetries, and helps to explain some curious morphophonemic vowel alternations in the imperative construction. altloc: [] chapter: ~ commentary: ~ commref: ~ confdates: ~ conference: ~ confloc: ~ contact_email: ~ creators_id: [] creators_name: - family: Bird given: Steven honourific: '' lineage: '' date: 1999 date_type: published datestamp: 2002-04-16 department: ~ dir: disk0/00/00/21/83 edit_lock_since: ~ edit_lock_until: ~ edit_lock_user: ~ editors_id: [] editors_name: - family: van der Hulst given: Harry honourific: '' lineage: '' - family: Ritter given: Nancy honourific: '' lineage: '' eprint_status: archive eprintid: 2183 fileinfo: /style/images/fileicons/application_pdf.png;/2183/3/syllable.pdf full_text_status: public importid: ~ institution: ~ isbn: ~ ispublished: pub issn: ~ item_issues_comment: [] item_issues_count: 0 item_issues_description: [] item_issues_id: [] item_issues_reported_by: [] item_issues_resolved_by: [] item_issues_status: [] item_issues_timestamp: [] item_issues_type: [] keywords: ~ lastmod: 2011-03-11 08:54:55 latitude: ~ longitude: ~ metadata_visibility: show note: ~ number: ~ pagerange: 447-476 pubdom: FALSE publication: 'The Syllable: Views and Facts.' publisher: Mouton De Gruyter refereed: TRUE referencetext: ~ relation_type: [] relation_uri: [] reportno: ~ rev_number: 12 series: ~ source: ~ status_changed: 2007-09-12 16:43:20 subjects: - ling-morph - ling-phono succeeds: ~ suggestions: ~ sword_depositor: ~ sword_slug: ~ thesistype: ~ title: Dschang syllable structure type: bookchapter userid: 1656 volume: ~
