--- abstract: |2 The corticothalamic feedback and the thalamic reticular nucleus have gained much attention lately because of their integrative and modulatory functions. A previous study by the author suggested that this circuitry can process analogies (i.e., the {\em analogy hypothesis}). In this paper, the proposed model was implemented as a network of leaky integrate-and-fire neurons to test the {\em analogy hypothesis}. The previous proposal required specific delay and temporal dynamics, and the implemented network tuned accordingly functioned as predicted. Furthermore, these specific conditions turn out to be consistent with experimental data, suggesting that a further investigation of the thalamocortical circuit within the {\em analogical framework} may be worthwhile. altloc: - http://faculty.cs.tamu.edu/choe/ftp/publications/choe.ijcnn03.pdf chapter: ~ commentary: ~ commref: ~ confdates: 7/20-7/24/2003 conference: International Joint Conference on Neural Networks confloc: 'Portland, Oregon' contact_email: ~ creators_id: - choe creators_name: - family: Choe given: Yoonsuck honourific: '' lineage: '' date: 2003 date_type: published datestamp: 2003-06-03 department: ~ dir: disk0/00/00/29/97 edit_lock_since: ~ edit_lock_until: ~ edit_lock_user: ~ editors_id: [] editors_name: - family: Wunsch given: Don honourific: '' lineage: '' - family: Hasselmo given: Michael honourific: '' lineage: '' eprint_status: archive eprintid: 2997 fileinfo: /style/images/fileicons/application_pdf.png;/2997/1/choe.ijcnn03.pdf full_text_status: public importid: ~ institution: ~ isbn: ~ ispublished: inpress issn: ~ item_issues_comment: [] item_issues_count: 0 item_issues_description: [] item_issues_id: [] item_issues_reported_by: [] item_issues_resolved_by: [] item_issues_status: [] item_issues_timestamp: [] item_issues_type: [] keywords: 'analogy, thalamus, integrate and fire neuron, delay, time constant, thalamic reticular nucleus' lastmod: 2011-03-11 08:55:17 latitude: ~ longitude: ~ metadata_visibility: show note: |- The previous version contained a small error (which does not affect the main result) in two of the computational results, which was fixed in this version This new version will be appearing in the conference proceeding. number: ~ pagerange: ~ pubdom: FALSE publication: ~ publisher: IEEE Press refereed: TRUE referencetext: ~ relation_type: [] relation_uri: [] reportno: ~ rev_number: 12 series: ~ source: ~ status_changed: 2007-09-12 16:47:45 subjects: - neuro-mod - comp-neuro-sci - neuro-physio - comp-sci-neural-nets - comp-sci-art-intel - percep-cog-psy succeeds: 2972 suggestions: ~ sword_depositor: ~ sword_slug: ~ thesistype: ~ title: Processing of analogy in the thalamocortical circuit type: confpaper userid: 2540 volume: ~
