--- abstract: "This paper presents a new computational model for studying the origins and evolution of compositional languages grounded through the interaction between agents and their environment. The model is based on previous work on adaptive grounding of lexicons and the iterated learning model. Although the model is still in a developmental phase, the first results show that a compositional language can emerge in which the structure reflects regularities present in the population's environment." altloc: - http://www.ling.ed.ac.uk/~paulv/publications/esslli2003.pdf chapter: ~ commentary: ~ commref: ~ confdates: ~ conference: 'European Summer School in Logic, Language and Information' confloc: ~ contact_email: ~ creators_id: [] creators_name: - family: Vogt given: Paul honourific: '' lineage: '' date: 2003 date_type: published datestamp: 2003-07-16 department: ~ dir: disk0/00/00/30/57 edit_lock_since: ~ edit_lock_until: ~ edit_lock_user: ~ editors_id: [] editors_name: [] eprint_status: archive eprintid: 3057 fileinfo: /style/images/fileicons/application_pdf.png;/3057/1/esslli2003.pdf full_text_status: public importid: ~ institution: ~ isbn: ~ ispublished: inpress issn: ~ item_issues_comment: [] item_issues_count: 0 item_issues_description: [] item_issues_id: [] item_issues_reported_by: [] item_issues_resolved_by: [] item_issues_status: [] item_issues_timestamp: [] item_issues_type: [] keywords: 'symbol grounding, language evolution, grammar induction' lastmod: 2011-03-11 08:55:18 latitude: ~ longitude: ~ metadata_visibility: show note: ~ number: ~ pagerange: ~ pubdom: FALSE publication: ~ publisher: ~ refereed: TRUE referencetext: ~ relation_type: [] relation_uri: [] reportno: ~ rev_number: 12 series: ~ source: ~ status_changed: 2007-09-12 16:48:10 subjects: - comp-sci-lang - ling-comput - comp-sci-robot succeeds: ~ suggestions: ~ sword_depositor: ~ sword_slug: ~ thesistype: ~ title: 'Iterated learning and grounding: from holistic to compositional languages' type: confpaper userid: 4180 volume: ~
