--- abstract: "C. L. Hardin has argued that the colour opponency of the vision system leads to chromatic subjectivism: chromatic sensory states reduce to neurophysiological states. Much of the force of Hardin's argument derives from a critique of chromatic objectivism. On this view chromatic sensory states are held to reduce to an external property. While I agree with Hardin's critique of objectivism it is far from clear that the problems which beset objectivism do not apply to the subjectivist position as well. I develop a critique of subjectivism that parallels Hardin's anti-objectivist argument." altloc: [] chapter: ~ commentary: ~ commref: ~ confdates: ~ conference: ~ confloc: ~ contact_email: ~ creators_id: [] creators_name: - family: Dedrick given: Don honourific: '' lineage: '' date: 1996 date_type: published datestamp: 1998-12-16 department: ~ dir: disk0/00/00/03/74 edit_lock_since: ~ edit_lock_until: ~ edit_lock_user: ~ editors_id: [] editors_name: [] eprint_status: archive eprintid: 374 fileinfo: /style/images/fileicons/text_html.png;/374/1/PSA.html full_text_status: public importid: ~ institution: ~ isbn: ~ ispublished: pub issn: ~ item_issues_comment: [] item_issues_count: 0 item_issues_description: [] item_issues_id: [] item_issues_reported_by: [] item_issues_resolved_by: [] item_issues_status: [] item_issues_timestamp: [] item_issues_type: [] keywords: 'colour, reduction, Hardin, Matthen, chromatic subjectivism, chromatic objectivism.' lastmod: 2011-03-11 08:53:52 latitude: ~ longitude: ~ metadata_visibility: show note: ~ number: ~ pagerange: 134-142 pubdom: FALSE publication: 'Philosophy of Science Association 96 Supplementary Issue, Part I' publisher: ~ refereed: TRUE referencetext: ~ relation_type: [] relation_uri: [] reportno: ~ rev_number: 8 series: ~ source: ~ status_changed: 2007-09-12 16:27:05 subjects: - phil-sci succeeds: ~ suggestions: ~ sword_depositor: ~ sword_slug: ~ thesistype: ~ title: Can colour be reduced to anything? type: journalp userid: 240 volume: 63
