--- abstract: "Written words probably developed independently at least in three places: Egypt, Mesopotamia and Harappa. In these densely populated areas, signs, icons and symbols were eventually used to create a writing system. It is interesting to see how sometimes remote populations are using the same icons and symbols. Here, we discuss examples and some results obtained by researchers investigating the signs of Harappan civilization.\r\n" altloc: [] chapter: ~ commentary: ~ commref: ~ confdates: ~ conference: ~ confloc: ~ contact_email: ~ creators_id: - amelia.sparavigna@polito.it creators_name: - family: Sparavigna given: Amelia honourific: Dr. lineage: '' date: 2008-08-29 date_type: submitted datestamp: 2008-08-30 23:23:22 department: ~ dir: disk0/00/00/61/79 edit_lock_since: ~ edit_lock_until: ~ edit_lock_user: ~ editors_id: [] editors_name: [] eprint_status: archive eprintid: 6179 fileinfo: /style/images/fileicons/application_pdf.png;/6179/1/icons%2Dand%2Dsigns%2Dharappa.pdf full_text_status: public importid: ~ institution: ~ isbn: ~ ispublished: unpub issn: ~ item_issues_comment: [] item_issues_count: 0 item_issues_description: [] item_issues_id: [] item_issues_reported_by: [] item_issues_resolved_by: [] item_issues_status: [] item_issues_timestamp: [] item_issues_type: [] keywords: ~ lastmod: 2011-03-11 08:57:11 latitude: ~ longitude: ~ metadata_visibility: show note: ~ number: ~ pagerange: ~ pubdom: TRUE publication: ~ publisher: ~ refereed: FALSE referencetext: ~ relation_type: [] relation_uri: [] reportno: ~ rev_number: 25 series: ~ source: ~ status_changed: 2008-08-30 23:23:22 subjects: - hist-ling succeeds: ~ suggestions: ~ sword_depositor: ~ sword_slug: ~ thesistype: ~ title: "Icons and signs from the ancient Harappa\r\n\r\n" type: other userid: 8163 volume: ~
