--- abstract: 'Learning from experiences is the fundamental process of case-based reasoning. Taking case-based reasoning seriously as a cognitive model implies that experiences play a fundamental role in human learning as well. This has important effects on what and how to teach. This chapter examines the types of knowledge acquired from experiences. Based on this analysis, it argues for a new approach to education in which case acquisition plays a central role.' altloc: [] chapter: ~ commentary: ~ commref: ~ confdates: ~ conference: ~ confloc: ~ contact_email: ~ creators_id: [] creators_name: - family: Schank given: Roger C. honourific: '' lineage: '' date: 1996 date_type: published datestamp: 1998-04-23 department: ~ dir: disk0/00/00/06/35 edit_lock_since: ~ edit_lock_until: ~ edit_lock_user: ~ editors_id: [] editors_name: - family: Leake given: David honourific: '' lineage: '' eprint_status: archive eprintid: 635 fileinfo: /style/images/fileicons/text_html.png;/635/1/CBRMeetsLBD_for_Leake.html full_text_status: public importid: ~ institution: ~ isbn: ~ ispublished: pub issn: ~ item_issues_comment: [] item_issues_count: 0 item_issues_description: [] item_issues_id: [] item_issues_reported_by: [] item_issues_resolved_by: [] item_issues_status: [] item_issues_timestamp: [] item_issues_type: [] keywords: ~ lastmod: 2011-03-11 08:54:08 latitude: ~ longitude: ~ metadata_visibility: show note: ~ number: ~ pagerange: 295-347 pubdom: FALSE publication: 'Case-Based Reasoning: Experiences, Lessons & Future Directions' publisher: AAAI Press/The MIT refereed: FALSE referencetext: ~ relation_type: [] relation_uri: [] reportno: ~ rev_number: 8 series: ~ source: ~ status_changed: 2007-09-12 16:32:22 subjects: - cog-psy - comp-sci-art-intel succeeds: ~ suggestions: ~ sword_depositor: ~ sword_slug: ~ thesistype: ~ title: 'Goal-Based Scenarios: Case-Based Reasoning Meets Learning by Doing' type: bookchapter userid: 136 volume: ~
