--- abstract: "Purpose: To find out the effect of training on selected physiological and biochemical variables of Indian soccer players of different age groups.\r\n\r\nMethods: A total of 120 soccer players volunteered for the study, were divided (n=30) into 4 groups: (i) under 16 years (U16), (ii) under 19 years (U19), (iii) under 23 years (U23), (iv) senior (SR). The training sessions were divided into 2 phases (a) Preparatory Phase (PP, 8 weeks) and (b) Competitive Phase (CP, 4 weeks). The training program consisted of aerobic, anaerobic and skill development, and were completed 4 hrs/day; 5 days/week. Selected physiological and biochemical variables were measured at zero level (baseline data, BD) and at the end of PP and CP.\r\n\r\nResults: A significant increase (P<0.05) in lean body mass (LBM), VO2max, anaerobic power, grip and back strength, urea, uric acid and high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C); and a significant decrease (P<0.05) in body fat, hemoglobin (Hb), total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG) and low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) were detected in some groups in PP and CP phases of the training when compare to BD. However, no significant change was found in body mass and maximal heart rate of the players after the training program.\r\n\r\nConclusion: This study would provide useful information for training and selection of soccer players of different age groups.\r\n" altloc: [] chapter: ~ commentary: ~ commref: ~ confdates: ~ conference: ~ confloc: ~ contact_email: ~ creators_id: [] creators_name: - family: Manna given: 'Indranil ' honourific: '' lineage: '' - family: Lal Khanna given: 'Gulshan ' honourific: '' lineage: '' - family: Chandra Dhara given: 'Prakash ' honourific: '' lineage: '' date: 2010-03-01 date_type: published datestamp: 2010-07-29 01:49:42 department: ~ dir: disk0/00/00/68/83 edit_lock_since: ~ edit_lock_until: 0 edit_lock_user: ~ editors_id: [] editors_name: - family: Ziaee given: Vahid honourific: Dr lineage: '' - family: 'Maffulli ' given: 'Nicola ' honourific: Prof lineage: '' eprint_status: archive eprintid: 6883 fileinfo: /style/images/fileicons/application_pdf.png;/6883/1/15033.pdf full_text_status: public importid: ~ institution: ~ isbn: ~ ispublished: pub issn: ~ item_issues_comment: [] item_issues_count: 0 item_issues_description: [] item_issues_id: [] item_issues_reported_by: [] item_issues_resolved_by: [] item_issues_status: [] item_issues_timestamp: [] item_issues_type: [] keywords: 'Anaerobic power, VO2max, Strength, Body fat, Lipid profile, Soccer ' lastmod: 2011-03-11 08:57:38 latitude: ~ longitude: ~ metadata_visibility: show note: ~ number: 1 pagerange: ~ pubdom: TRUE publication: Asian Journal of Sports Medicine publisher: 'Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Sports Medicine Research Center ' refereed: TRUE referencetext: ~ relation_type: [] relation_uri: [] reportno: ~ rev_number: 49 series: ~ source: ~ status_changed: 2010-07-29 01:49:42 subjects: - JOURNALS - peer-review succeeds: ~ suggestions: ~ sword_depositor: ~ sword_slug: ~ thesistype: ~ title: Effect of Training on Physiological and Biochemical Variables of Soccer Players of Different Age Groups type: journale userid: 10613 volume: 1
