abstract: "This study sought to develop and test a measure\r\nof social presence. Based on review of current\r\ndefinitions and measures, a synthesis of the\r\ntheoretical construct that meets the criteria and\r\ndimensions [1] is proposed for a broad successful\r\nmeasure of social presence. An experiment was\r\nconducted to test the internal consistency and\r\ncriterion validity of the measures as determined by\r\ntheory, specifically the ability of the measure to\r\ndistinguish levels of social presence that almost all\r\ntheories suggest exist between (1) face-to-face\r\ninteraction and mediated interaction, and (2)\r\ndifferent levels of mediated interaction."
