--- abstract: "In this comment, it is argued that the experiments by Cunningham, Healy, Till, Fendrich, and Dimitry (1993) do not constitute failures to replicate Muter's (1980) finding of very rapid forgetting and do not undermine the conclusion of more rapid forgetting from primary memory than had previously been estimated. In Cunningham et al.'s experiments, expectancy of recall after a filled retention interval, a crucial variable in very rapid forgetting, was more than an order of magnitude higher than in Muter's experiments, and the distracting task was substantially easier." altloc: - http://psych.utoronto.ca/~muter/Abs1995.htm chapter: ~ commentary: ~ commref: ~ confdates: ~ conference: ~ confloc: ~ contact_email: ~ creators_id: [] creators_name: - family: Muter given: Paul honourific: '' lineage: '' date: 1995 date_type: published datestamp: 1999-02-17 department: ~ dir: disk0/00/00/07/96 edit_lock_since: ~ edit_lock_until: ~ edit_lock_user: ~ editors_id: [] editors_name: [] eprint_status: archive eprintid: 796 fileinfo: /style/images/fileicons/text_html.png;/796/1/Abs1995.htm full_text_status: public importid: ~ institution: ~ isbn: ~ ispublished: pub issn: ~ item_issues_comment: [] item_issues_count: 0 item_issues_description: [] item_issues_id: [] item_issues_reported_by: [] item_issues_resolved_by: [] item_issues_status: [] item_issues_timestamp: [] item_issues_type: [] keywords: 'memory, forgetting, consciousness, short-term memory, primary memory' lastmod: 2011-03-11 08:54:17 latitude: ~ longitude: ~ metadata_visibility: show note: ~ number: 3 pagerange: 383-386 pubdom: FALSE publication: Memory & Cognition publisher: ~ refereed: TRUE referencetext: ~ relation_type: [] relation_uri: [] reportno: ~ rev_number: 8 series: ~ source: ~ status_changed: 2007-09-12 16:34:28 subjects: - cog-psy - cog-psy succeeds: ~ suggestions: ~ sword_depositor: ~ sword_slug: ~ thesistype: ~ title: 'Very rapid forgetting: Reply to Cunningham, Healy, Till, Fendrich, and Dimitry' type: journalp userid: 393 volume: 23
