--- abstract: "The goal in this paper is to show how the classification of \r\nphonetic features to phonemes can be acquired. This classificational process is modeled by a supervised feature \r\nselection method, based on adaptive distance measures. \r\nException handling is incorporated into a learned distance function by pointwise additions of Boolean functions for\r\nindividual pattern combinations. An important result is the \r\ndifferentiation of rules and exceptions during learning." altloc: [] chapter: ~ commentary: ~ commref: ~ confdates: September 1994 conference: European Meeting on Systems and Cybernetics confloc: Vienna contact_email: ~ creators_id: - gscheler@gmail.com creators_name: - family: Scheler given: Gabriele honourific: '' lineage: '' date: 1994 date_type: published datestamp: 2012-11-09 19:35:15 department: ~ dir: disk0/00/00/80/84 edit_lock_since: ~ edit_lock_until: 0 edit_lock_user: ~ editors_id: [] editors_name: - family: Trappl given: Robert honourific: '' lineage: '' eprint_status: archive eprintid: 8084 fileinfo: application/postscript;http://cogprints.org/8084/2/scheler_phonology.ps|application/pdf;http://cogprints.org/8084/3/scheler_phonology.pdf full_text_status: public importid: ~ institution: ~ isbn: ~ ispublished: pub issn: ~ item_issues_comment: [] item_issues_count: 0 item_issues_description: [] item_issues_id: [] item_issues_reported_by: [] item_issues_resolved_by: [] item_issues_status: [] item_issues_timestamp: [] item_issues_type: [] keywords: 'phonetic features, distance metrics, outliers, classification' lastmod: 2012-11-09 19:35:15 latitude: ~ longitude: ~ metadata_visibility: show note: ~ number: ~ pagerange: ~ pubdom: TRUE publication: ~ publisher: Springer refereed: TRUE referencetext: ~ relation_type: [] relation_uri: [] reportno: ~ rev_number: 24 series: ~ source: ~ status_changed: 2012-11-09 19:35:15 subjects: - comp-sci-mach-learn - comp-sci-speech - comp-sci-stat-model - ling-phono succeeds: 1483 suggestions: ~ sword_depositor: ~ sword_slug: ~ thesistype: ~ title: 'Feature Selection with Exception Handling - An Example from Phonology' type: confpaper userid: 1760 volume: ~
