abstract: "Communication depends on the production and interpretation \r\nof representations, but the study of representational processes \r\nunderlying communication finds little discussion in \r\ncomputational experiments. Here we present an experiment \r\non the emergence of both interpretation and production of \r\nmultiple representations, with multiple referents, where \r\nreferential processes can be tracked. Results show the \r\ndynamics of semiotic processes during the evolution of \r\nartificial creatures and the emergence of a variety of semiotic \r\nprocesses, such as sign production, sign interpretation, and \r\nsign-object-interpretant relations."
