One of the most (morbidly) interesting things
\nabout cognitive aging
\nis that it is not the things you do deliberately
\nthat start,
\none by one,
\nto betray and abandon you:
\nIt\u2019s the things your brain has always done for you automatically,
\nyour autopilot functions
\n(and there have been so many, you come to discover)
\nthat begin to jump ship,
\nleaving you more and more on your own,
\nrealizing (too late)
\nthat it’s never been you
\ndoing all these things all along:
\nthey\u2019ve always been done for you.
\nAnd now — now — you\u2019re the one
