{"id":953,"date":"2019-01-02T22:57:52","date_gmt":"2019-01-02T22:57:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/skywritings\/?p=953"},"modified":"2019-01-02T22:57:52","modified_gmt":"2019-01-02T22:57:52","slug":"the-dictators-bog-standard-m-o","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/skywritings\/2019\/01\/02\/the-dictators-bog-standard-m-o\/","title":{"rendered":"The Dictator&#8217;s Bog-Standard M.O"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/hungarianfreepress.com\/2014\/08\/11\/illiberal-orban-portrayed-as-central-europes-paprika-dictator\/\"><img src=\"http:\/\/hungarianfreepress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/orban-hungarian-dictator.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is by now patently obvious that the refugee \u201ccrisis\u201d that Hungary&#8217;s PM Viktor Orban has artifically and systematically created had 3 goals:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>(1) to divert attention from Orban\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/hungarianspectrum.org\/2015\/05\/23\/corruption-at-the-highest-level-it-looks-that-way\/\">many<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/hungarianspectrum.org\/2015\/04\/23\/fidesz-cant-escape-from-the-shadow-of-the-quaestor-scandal\/\">mounting<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/hungarianspectrum.org\/2015\/04\/23\/fidesz-cant-escape-from-the-shadow-of-the-quaestor-scandal\/\">corruption scandals<\/a>,<\/p>\n<p>(2) to re-assert and reinforce Orban\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/hungarianspectrum.org\/2015\/08\/29\/miklos-horthy-redux\/\">populistic self-image<\/a> as the nation\u2019s protector against the invasion of the Turks and the exploitation by the EU and<\/p>\n<p>(3) to provide a pretext for introducing <a href=\"http:\/\/hungarianspectrum.org\/2015\/09\/05\/toward-a-police-state\/\">police-state legislation<\/a> for enhancing Orban\u2019s dictatorial powers.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>(The bonus of the new emergency right to break into the homes of people suspected of giving refuge to refugees (sic!) is that Orban will now at last gain the legal right to break into the home of his arch-enemy, the former prime-minister, Viktor Gyurcsany, whom he had ousted through dirty tricks and character assassination and who is now <a href=\"http:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/videos\/tv\/2015\/09\/03\/intv-amanpour-gyurcsany-ferenc-hungary-refugees.cnn\/video\/playlists\/amanpour\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">giving refuge to the refugees<\/a>: perhaps Orban will even be able to do what he has so long tried, so far unsuccessfully, to do, which is to find a legal pretext for imprisoning Gyurcsany.)<\/p>\n<p>This is the standard M.O. of psychopathic dictators, if they are not stopped by concerted resistance from normal, decent people.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/videos\/tv\/2015\/09\/03\/intv-amanpour-gyurcsany-ferenc-hungary-refugees.cnn\/video\/playlists\/amanpour\/\"><img src=\"http:\/\/ichef.bbci.co.uk\/images\/ic\/976x549\/p031g02r.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It is by now patently obvious that the refugee \u201ccrisis\u201d that Hungary&#8217;s PM Viktor Orban has artifically and systematically created had 3 goals: (1) to divert attention from Orban\u2019s many mounting corruption scandals, (2) to re-assert and reinforce Orban\u2019s populistic self-image as the nation\u2019s protector against the invasion of the Turks and the exploitation by &hellip;
