It has been suggested that rape is a power motivated action rather than
a sexuallly motivated action. I agree with this point of view for two
main reasons. Firstly, when taking into consideration the statistics
about rapists, it is a known fact that it is low status men who are
more likely to rape. This would imply that they feel the need to
dominate something in order to increase their self-esteem. This may be
why rape is often associated with physical beatings, even when the
women may not provoke it. It is all a matter of control.
The second consideration is that of sexual abuse. Sexual abuse does not
have to constitute actual penetrative sex. In many cases of child abuse
for example, the child is subjected to intimate touching as opposed to
actual rape. In these cases, the ejaculation of the male does not
appear to be the motivating factor, which again implies that sexual
abuse of any kind, including rape is driven by the craving for power.
