The University of Southampton with FutureLearn is pleased to announce its first Massive Open Online Course in Oceanography – Exploring our Oceans.

In this free six-week course starting 3 February, we invite our audience to investigate the deepest parts of our oceans, exploring an underwater world that has been unknown for most of human history.

This course will:

  • Show how the ocean depths are no longer out of reach and connected to our everyday lives
  • Engage the learner in our most recent expedition findings & share our knowledge on the least touched areas of our oceans
  • Look at the animals that swim in these dark waters, the creatures on the seabed and the makeup of the underwater environment they live in.

Who is this course for?

This course is for anyone who is interested in our world’s oceans and how they affect our everyday lives. Whether you are a student wanting a taster of our oceanography degrees or a lifelong learner with a passion for our oceans, we’ll introduce this exciting science to you in an accessible way.

We look forward to you joining us online for six weeks of deep ocean exploration. Join the global debate!
