I am really looking forward to this course as Roman history and archaeology formed part of my OU degree. While serving in a NATO post in Naples I was fortunate in having ample opportunity to study the well-known Roman (or rather “Romanised”) sites in the surrounding area, and further afield. I had a particular interest in the Roman seaside resort of Baia and its underwater remains as well as the sunken site of nearby Portus Julius. Although I visited Rome’s Portus once, my present knowledge is based on a lecture, under the auspices of the British School at Rome, that Professor Keay gave at the British Academy . I am eager to learn more.

I, too, have just finished the Coursera Roman Architecture course, which I enjoyed. My MPhil is on the ports of western Hispania, so I’m really excited about this opportunity to learn more about Portus!

Thank you for this course, I am really looking forward to it, as I have just finished the fascinating Coursera MOOC on Roman Architecture, where Portus was covered in one lecture. I am sure that quite a few of us are now migrating towards this course, to find out what has been happening there, in more detail!
