with our department I had a collaboration with the University of Western Australia and the Wunambal Gaambera Aboriginal Corporation on Rock art recording and management of data of some incredible sites in the Kimberly. The project also briefly explore digital engagement with all the relevant concerns about sharing data. As follow up I have also been involved in a project (March 2014) in collaboration with the Simon Fraser University, Vancouver and the First Nations community. Feel free to contact me for any questions!! :)

Thankyou for this opportunity to learn about Portus. I am a graduate archaeologist in Hobart, Tasmania with experience in colonial and Indigenous Archaeology in Australia. What a wonderful way to learn the archaeology of another region in the world. I am especially interested in the digital engagement/web technology that is being used to present the course content. What a fantastic way to engage learners and provide a virtual experience to the past!

There are no course books. We have tried to include as much as possible within the course itself. We also link to supporting resources – a few academic papers, some links like museum catalogues, and a lot of photographs of the site and objects from it: https://www.flickr.com/photos/portusproject/collections/72157641266602045/ You can interact via the blog like this, or within the comments on the course itself. If you use twitter you can link to others by using #UoSFLPortus as a hash tag. I am sure that learners will also use Facebook and Google+. But none of this is required. Whether you dip in, stick rigidly to the structure, or make your own route through we are glad you are taking part. Let us know how it is going.

We have *tried* to pitch the course at a level where anyone can enjoy it. You wil tell us how we have done and what we can add to make it better. We have a glossary on the FL site (won’t work if you aren’t logged in) that we will be adding to as the course progresses. All the best.

I’m so looking forward to this course. My only question is, never having been involved in a MOOC course before, how does it work? I know this may sound silly, but I would like to know exactly what is involved for the student in participating, are there any course books (?), what type of interaction, etc. My son told me about this type of course and I’m eager to learn.
