Thanks, Graeme. I am just trying to catch up on following this fascinating course after an interval due to having no Internet access. Hope I can complete the course. Sometimes the videos are not available or the speakers’ voices are badly cut, so evetually settling for reading the transcript is useful.

I’ve just returned from mallorca on holiday and found the site at Alceudia and possible site near palma’s hospital. Apparently there are 4 Roman sites on the island but according to information at Castillo bellver, 2 are still undiscovered, or where they could be. I had to take photos through netting despite it saying it was open. Do you have a good link to the Romans on mallorca. Also think there were ruins on sea edge of Palma. Fascinating course although I am a little behind. Thank you

So given that Ostia was bigger and had more capacity than previously thought suggests the ‘raison d’etre’ for the creation of a new facility at Portus, further expansion of Ostia being impractical.( Does the South bank of Ostia predate the North?) A new ‘airport’ not just a new’ runway’. One can imagine the Senate debating the pros and cons of different schemes at the time of Claudius with a Roman Boris Johnson extolling the virtues of new development.
