Hopefully, your whole family enjoy the course.

It’s actually with the University of Leicester but I wanted to pose a question whether UoS have any plans in the near future to do an part time Distance Learning MSc in Maritime Archaeology?

As an aside, it would appear that two of my sons have enrolled in the Shipwrecks and Submerged Worlds MOOC!

Regards,

Nick

If you sign up for Shipwrecks, there is no obligation to complete any of it, so don’t worry about that. There are lots of elements in Week 1 of the course that will help to prepare you for your OU course as we’re discussing what (Maritime) archaeology is. If you are able to get through Week 1, you could cherry pick the bits that interest you most and come back to other parts later. You can ‘mark as complete’ anything that you feel you’ve covered in enough depth for you (whether that’s a glance at the page to be able to click it, or whether you want to study it in depth), so you should easily be able to see what you’ve missed later.

The University of Southampton team will only be active in the course during the four-week run, so any questions that are posted after that may not be answered, but the last course run still had active learners in it several months later, so there may be other learners who reply to your questions.

My personal strategy would be to see how you get on with the course and if you find you can’t what you want to out of it whilst doing your OU course then you can always download items later.

Ideally I would like to the Shipwreck course if I have a lull in the degree course but not sure when that will be. Any ideas on the best way to proceed?

You’ll retain access to the course on FutureLearn for a year, which should, hopefully, be long enough for you to be able to complete what you want to… but perhaps you mean that you want to be able to access it offline? It’s not possible to do a bulk download, but you can download the individual videos, and I’ve tried to create a pdf of every step so that you can download those as well, so that you can save them or print them, if you want to. I hope that helps :-)

As an aside. Is it possible to record or download the course whilst it is going on to do later?

We’re currently in negotiation for an April rerun, but that hasn’t been confirmed yet. As soon as we have a confirmed start date, we’ll be sharing it far and wide on this blog and other forms of social media!
