A note on OAIS

Throughout these pages we have referred to, and shown elements of, the open archival information system (OAIS) reference model. Below is an illustration of the full model. This model is little known in the institutional repository community, and can thus seem obscure, overly technical and irrelevant. The strength of this approach, however, is if you model a system for managing digital content, such as a repository, and describe what the repository does, you will come close to reproducing the OAIS model (minus the technical description, which has already been done). Try it.
