| In this paper we present the Vienna Parallel Input Output System (ViPIOS), a novel approach to enhance the I/O performance of high performance applications. It is a client-server based tool combiningcapabilities found in parallel I/O runtime libraries and parallel file systems. The main design principles of the approach are presented which is based on data engineering know-how. We give an in-depth presentation of the developed system and justify our approach by a performance analysis showing ViPIOS's scalability behavior. |
