The Grid allows the sharing of computing power, data resources and software applications over the internet. By providing scalable, secure, high-performance mechanisms for discovering, accessing and utilising remote resources, Grid Technology makes scientific collaborations achievable in ways that were previously impossible. It enables large-scale resource sharing and coordinated problem solving within a collection of geographically distributed and loosely coordinated groups - a virtual organisation (VO). Requirements for long running, compute intensive calculations make the problem domain of engineering and design search and optimisation using CEM/CFD well-suited to the applications of Grid Technology. In Geodise our goal is to develop sophisticated but easy to use toolkits to help engineers make use of resources available on the Grid. |
