Getting Ready to Use CVS
Before you can use CVS you must first tell it where the directory which
contains your repository is located. This is done by setting the
environment variable CVSROOT. You may either set this to an existing
repository or create your own repository. The following sequence will
create your own repository in a directory called cvs_test in your home
directory.
First set the environment variable CVSROOT to ~/cvs_test
[Or any other directory you wish].
Next run the command cvsinit. The output
indicates that it has created the directory ~/cvs_test, along with
a subdirectory named CVSROOT and put several files into CVSROOT. The CVSROOT
directory contains various administrative files which govern how CVS operates.
An established repository would contain several other directories, normally one
for each project placed under CVS.
