Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to assess the dynamic behavior of lifting equipment (different types of cranes, elevating work platform, etc.) subjected to seismic actions and how these actions can both generate failures and both affect the structural behavior of the machine itself.

The work is developed starting from the design of a few different types of machines (according to some classical standards and specific performance like working load, lifting speed, working area, etc.) determining the geometry of the main structures. Subsequently were applied some load spectra (related to the action of earthquake) then proceeding to a structural evaluation of the machine (maximum stresses, phenomena of instability local and global, etc.). The analyses performed are numerical using different finite element codes
