'Rising star' to investigate space shock waves in prestigious Royal Society fellowship
Space scientist Dr Imogen Gingell will explore interactions between Sun plasma and the Earth’s magnetic field in new Royal Society fellowship at the University of Southampton.
Dr Gingell will use machine learning techniques and 3D computer simulations to investigate magnetic reconnection and shock waves within the Earth's magnetosphere.
The 'rising star'; of her field will commence the prestigious University Research Fellowship (URF) when she joins Southampton’s School of Physics and Astronomy from Imperial College London this October.
Royal Society URFs identify outstanding early career scientists who have the potential to become leaders in their area of expertise.
"The fellowship comes at a key point in my career," Imogen says. "I made discoveries last year that open up a new avenue of research in space physics, and the URF will allow me to keep up that momentum and firmly establish my science in the global community."
