If the Semantic Web is to utilise the vast number of documents available on the WWW it requires an effective way to automatically annotate those docu- ments, enabling the extraction of relevant informa- tion. The Pascal Challenge on the Evaluation of Ma- chine Learning for Information Extraction provided a common basis on which it assess the relative per- formance of multifarious machine learning systems. This paper describes the challenge and presents an initial analysis of the results.
