As part of our ongoing commitment to making scientific research more
accessible, BioMed Central recently implemented support for the Open
Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting, described here:

http://www.openarchives.org/OAI/openarchivesprotocol.htm

The BioMed Central OAI-compliant repository offers metadata for all of the
several hundred articles that have been published by BioMed Central's
online, open-access research journals.

Articles from BioMed Central articles are already indexed in PubMed and
Scirus and are archived at PubMed Central. The British Library has also
agreed to archive research from BioMed Central when it establishes its as
soon as it has put the necessary technical infrastructure in place.

Providing metadata for BioMed Central articles in standard Dublin Core
format XML via the OAI Metadata Harvesting protocol now allows any OAI-
compliant service provider to list BioMed Central content, and several
are already doing so.

In the near future, we also plan to release an update to the BioMed Central
OAI repository, that will offer a richer choice of metadata formats, and
compliance with the recently finalised version 1.1 of the OAI Metadata
Harvesting Protocol.

Further information about BioMed Central's OAI support is available here:

Comments and suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Best regards,

Matt Cockerill
