Traditional journal values and e-journals
Traditional journal features the academic community wants
to retain:
-
high quality through peer review
-
archival sources
-
author recognition through strong journal identities

Journals: Fit for the Future? Ariadne, issue 7, Jan. 1997
New e-journal features the community would like to add:
-
improved access
-
integrated citation linking, access to databases, search,
etc.
-
lower optional costs
The problem is that the traditional features emphasise
the 'journal in a box' approach, while the new features require that the
literature breaks out of its box in many situations.
