VisTrails Terminology

  • Process provenance: The history of the creation of a certain workflow. This is not the history of the results generated by the workflow, but the history of the process itself.
  • Workflow Evolution: For exploratory tasks, besides capturing data provenance, it is also important to capture the history of the exploration process, i.e., the history of changes applied to a workflow (or set of related workflows). We say that the process provenance captures the workflow evolution.
