Community Process for Serialization of OPM V1.1 to XML and RDF
Scope
A community process was used to define OPMV1.1 (cf
WorkInProgressV1pt1). This community process resulted in a revised specification of the OPM abstract model. However, no serialization of OPM has formally been endorsed by the community.
Several ontology proposals have emerged in the last few years, likewise various xml schemas have been proposed. During PC3, many (but not all) teams used the xml schema maintained with the opm toolbox, and its associated converter to rdf, via tupelo. Recently, a full OWL ontology was incorporated in the opm toolbox, with full conversion between the xml representation and the rdf representation.
Separately, the data.gov.uk, through Jun Zhao's effort, has been developing OPMV, a lightweight vocabulary inspired by OPM. Recently, this vocabulary and the OPM OWL ontology were fully aligned.
The scope of this community process is to review several schemas and ontologies:
Note that this community process does not preclude other serializations to be defined (in RDF, XML, or others), but it allows the community to identify one common way of exchanging provenance information, using the OPM provenance model.
Timetable
Proposed timetable for v1.1:
- Change Proposals (begins, ends)
- Proposals Review (begins, ends)
- Vote (begins , ends )
- Revised schemas and ontologies (published )
- Schemas and ontologies review (completes )

Change Proposals
Please submit your Change Proposal (CP) in this section, according to the
ChangeProposalTemplate. The template includes a review section where comments on proposals or counter-proposals can be discussed. Note that Counter Proposals should also appear as a separate page.
