Some news this week, about Stuart (see below).
This is Trevor Smedley's last week here, so if you want to talk to
him, now is the time.
I was at the AIKMS (Architectures for Integrated Kmowledge
Manipulation Systems) Conference in Oxford last week (as was Vicki for
a short time). If you want to know more ask one of us.
The DSSE talk on Monday the 3rd April will be in ES1 (sorry to
drag you across the campus again!) at 13:00.
MasterFlow: The Next Generation of Command Line Interfaces
Hugh Glaser and Trevor Smedley.
Abstract
The move to WIMPS interfaces has delivered excellent models and
interfaces for simple operations on personal computers.
Unfortunately, this has not been matched by the development of
models and interfaces for the operations required in more
complex systems, traditionally provided by applications such as
the "csh".
In this seminar we will introduce and demonstrate the use of the
Prograph system, together with a sample of suitable utilities,
as the appropriate tool for shell-type operations in a WIMPS
environment.
I am pleased to report that Stuart Maclean has started work on the
GraphIcsla Project today.
I think almost all of you know Stuart, so I
won't say any more.
My forthcoming PhD viva on April 7th seems a good opportunity for
a Declarative Systems and Software Engineering lemonade and nosh.
After a post-work visit to a lemonade-dispensing establishment, I
propose to adjourn to the Rose and Crown in Portswood. All welcome!
Jon Hallett
has kindly offered to collect numbers and to book us
a table.
Copy deadline: 5pm Friday for Monday's newsletter, but send the articles
any time.
