The University of Southampton

At the strategic end of the spectrum, ECS and the University of Southampton encourage long-term and short-term relationships with major corporate organisations that fund research programmes and centres of excellence. Major collaborators include BAE Systems on the ORCHID programme, Carl Zeiss and Oxford Instruments in our Southampton Nanofabrication Centre, and National Grid in the Tony Davies High Voltage Laboratory. Many other companies and organizations are involved in our Doctoral Training Centres and as research partners to our research groups and outstanding research facilities.

With over 500 researchers from many different subject backgrounds, our research environment is multidisciplinary and dynamic, and continues to define and develop new research directions, such as Web ScienceOpen Data and bionanotechnology. At the same time, we continue to make new and substantial contributions to fundamental aspects of our subjects, such as software sustainabilityimage processing, and control

Our research centres deliver highly regarded academic research output and also provide a supply of accredited skilled graduates who can meet the demands of industry.
