About this course

We've changed some parts of this course for the 2020 to 2021 academic year due to coronavirus (COVID-19). These changes may affect how we'll teach you and which modules you'll take.

Explore the physical components, software and systems that bring electronic devices to life. Our 4-year, integrated master's will let you design, build and test your own electronic systems, including a project to solve a real-life problem. You can study the latest advances in areas such as quantum devices and nanotechnology. You’ll also develop skills you can apply to societal issues, like sustainable energy and data security.

This degree is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). It provides a route to professional registration as a Chartered Engineer.

Our master's degree in electronic engineering provides a solid basis in engineering. It allows you to specialise your studies with topics like:

  • robotics

  • cyber security

  • microfabrication

  • safety systems

You'll also learn about the latest advances in areas such as quantum technology and photonics (the science of light), from our researchers, who are experts in these fields.

As part of this course you can:

  • use our research facilities, including a high-voltage laboratory and our £110m interdisciplinary clean room

  • develop your enterprise skills with help from our startup supporter, Future Worlds

  • build your own unique electronic systems

  • study engineering management and law to develop your career skills

You can take this course with an additional year-long, paid placement. Apply with UCAS code HH61 for the Industrial Studies option.

This MEng Electronic Engineering degree is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer.

Changes due to COVID-19

Although the COVID-19 situation is improving, any future restrictions could mean we might have to change the way parts of our teaching and learning take place in 2021 to 2022. We're working hard to plan for a number of possible scenarios. This means that some of the information on this course page may be subject to change.
