Frameworks for collaboration and multilingualism

The eighth biennial joint LLAS, UCML and AULC conference aims to bring together language practitioners from Secondary, Higher, and Further Education to celebrate language collaborations and innovations across the sector.

The conference is centred on the development of partnerships and frameworks that have formed between individuals or institutions who are continuing to work on bringing languages to the fore.  As a response to challenging times in which our strategically important, yet vulnerable, subjects continue to feel the strain of falling student numbers, instigating innovative collaborations and teaching practices has indeed become of strategic importance in the re-framing of language learning at all levels.

Keynote speakers will include :

Professor Wendy Ayres-Bennett, University of Cambridge
Wendy Ayres-Bennett works on the history of the French language and the history of linguistic thought, particularly in seventeenth-century France. Her major research interests include questions of standardisation and codification, linguistic ideology and policy, and variation and change, from the sixteenth century to the present day. Professor Michael Kelly, University of Southampton
A Professor of French in Modern Languages at the University of Southampton,Mike is a specialist in modern French culture and society, especially the history of ideas and intellectuals, and on public policy in the area of languages and language education, in the UK and in Europe more broadly.  He studied French at Warwick University (BA and PhD), and lectured at University College Dublin, before being appointed Professor of French at Southampton. René Koglbauer, Newcastle University
René Koglbauer is senior lecturer in the School of Education, Communication and Language Sciences (ECLS) and currently he is Acting Head of the School. In addition to this leadership role, René is the Director of the North Leadership Centre. present day. Read more....

The TEF panel will be an opportunity for the language community to explore what the future Teaching Excellence Framework will mean for Modern Languages. 

The conference would like to explore the current re-thinking of languages provision from a multi-faceted perspective, focusing on the added value that collaborations bring to the sector at large. In this respect, the event will be divided into the following themes:

• 50% refund of registration fee where cancellation is received in writing by Tuesday 31 May 2016
• No refund will be given if cancellation is given from Wednesday 1 June 2016 onwards

Rooms are based at Bluebell Halls of Residence and are ensuite.  Breakfast will be served in the Rootes Restaurant which is located about a 2-5 minute walk away.  All rooms have hair dryers, wifi, tea and coffee making facilities, towels and toiletries as well as iron and ironing boards that are available in the kitchen.  If you have booked the full conference package, this entitles you to full use of the University Sports Facilities which include : 25m indoor swimming pool, gymnasium and tennis courts as well as overnight parking.

Please not that if you don’t book your free permit in advance, the venue will charge you for parking. 

Useful information

The University of Warwick campus is nearer Coventry than Warwick and offers good transport links and facilities e.g.bars, cafes, bank, supermarket, pharmacy and sports centre.  On campus you will also find a major Arts Centre

There are lots of choices for eating out and shopping too. Buses run regularly to/from campus

For those willing to take a short drive out (approx..15 mins), Warwick is a pretty market town just along the A46. There’s a lovely market square, several interesting museums and of course Warwick castle : https://www.warwick-castle.com/

A short bus ride from Coventry will take you to the small town of Kenilworth with a little shopping centre and a lovely castle:  Kenilworth Castle and Elizabethan Garden   The old town (near the castle) has some good eating places.
