BAIS/LTSN Day Conference on 'Irish Studies in the Curriculum'

The British Association for Irish Studies, in association with the Learning and Teaching Support Network, is proposing to hold a day conference on 'Irish Studies in the Curriculum' during Autumn 2003 at Senate House, University of London. The event is co-ordinating by the English Subject Centre and the Subject Centre for Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies.

Topics for discussion might include:

  • Irish Studies in 'English' programmes
  • Marketing Irish Studies
  • Teaching the North
  • Interdisciplinarity in Irish Studies
  • Irish History in the Curriculum
  • Irish Studies outside Higher Education
  • The current state of 'Irish Studies'

Outline proposals for papers or subjects for discussion are welcomed and should be sent to Dr Siobhán Holland at siobhan.holland@rhul.ac.uk by January 11th 2003. A later deadline for full proposals will be announced in the New Year. If you would like to register your interest in receiving more information about the event please let her know.

Funding for the event has been provided by the Learning and Teaching Support Network (LTSN) which is seeking to support the development of curricula in 'Area Studies' subjects such as Irish Studies. The remit of the LTSN is to cater for the support of learning and teaching in Higher Education, but papers on the teaching of Irish Studies at other levels will also be welcomed.
