1. SUBJECT CENTRE WORKSHOP - INTERACTIVE WHITEBOARDS FOR LANGUAGE TEACHING,
UNIVERSITY OF HULL, Wednesday 15 January 2003 (10.30 - 16.30)
This workshop, led by Ros Walker, will look at the effective use of interactive whiteboards in the classroom. The focus of this workshop will
be on the emerging methodology for effective use of the whiteboards.

2. SUBJECT CENTRE WORKSHOP: Intercultural Learning and the role of Visual Media

3. LWULT LANGUAGES DISSEMINATION PROJECT: CALL FOR BIDS
As mentioned in a previous bulletin, the Subject Centre is inviting bids for funding for up to £3,500. This money will fund up to 6 mini projects in lesser widely taught languages. 4. SUBJECT CENTRE STAFF CHANGES
Following the departure of Janet Bartle, the full-time Learning Technology Advisor at Hull, the University has decided that it will no longer be able to carry out its role in the Subject Centre. The University of Hull will therefore be withdrawing from its partnership in the Subject Centre with effect from the end of December.
5. SUBJECT CENTRE WORKSHOP - COMPUTER ASSISTED ASSESSMENT
University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. Monday 27 January 2003
This event will look at generic issues such as CAA pedagogy, standards and interoperability, as well as specific issues and tools for CAA in language learning. There will be demonstrations and opportunity to try out tools currently available (Questionmark, WELTS, Interactive Language Learning).

6. AMATAS FINAL CONFERENCE -
University of Central Lancashire, Preston 17 January 2003
A day conference on Americanisation and the teaching of the Humanities will be held on Friday 17 January 2003 at the University of Central Lancashire. 7. DELPHI WEBSITE LAUNCHED
DELPHI (Development of Language Professionals in Higher Eduation Institutions)is a project sponsored by HEFCE's National Teaching Fellowship Scheme. It aims to provide web-based staff development materials for all colleagues teaching foreign languages in Higher Education.

8. ONE-DAY WORKSHOP ON ASSESSING TRANSLATION
University of Aston, 22 March 2003
The Institute for the Study of Language and Society and the Translation Studies Subject Group at Aston University are organising a one-day workshop on assessing translation, to be held on Saturday 22 March 2003. 9. CONSULTATION: LANGUAGE LEARNING AND LINGUISTIC DIVERSITY
As a part of its ongoing work to promote a multilingual Europe, the European Commission is undertaking a public consultation about language learning and linguistic diversity in Europe. Please visit the web page: http://europa.eu.int/comm/education/languages/consult_en.html from which you will be able to download a copy of a brief Consultation Document; you will also find background information concerning the work of the European Union in this field and on the opinions of European citizens about language learning.
