Call for proposals: Pedagogic Research Fund 2005/06 (Phase 2)
News summary
The Subject Centre has funds to support a second round of Pedagogical Research mini-projects in Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies in Higher Education. UK Higher Education Institutions are eligible to apply for up to a maximum of £4000 to support a small-scale project to commence by 1 February 2005 and ending by 31 January 2006.
At least one project in each of the three areas covered by this Subject Centre will be funded. Collaborative projects involving more than one institution or involving collaboration with Schools of Education will be viewed favourably especially where this involves a partnership between experienced and novice researchers. Project funds will cover costs such as: buying out of staff time, employment of a research assistant, travel and subsistence, office costs and appropriate resources. Funds do not cover overheads.
All projects will be expected to attend two networking meetings, one at the beginning and one towards the end of the project. These meetings are intended to provide an opportunity for projects to share experiences. Travel expenses for attendance at these sessions will be covered by the Subject Centre.
Eligibility
- Funds will be allocated to projects through their institution, i.e. not directly to individual applicants
- Funds are available to support projects run by academic or academic-related teaching or learning support staff employed by a higher education institution teaching languages, linguistics or area studies
- Funds are not available to support a postgraduate doctoral studentship - projects should be self-contained and be of no more than one year's duration.
- Projects whose aim is the development of new or existing resources or teaching methods are not eligible for this fund but rather should show evidence of established relevant activity e.g. if evaluating new methods of assessment the course should already be up and running, if evaluating the effectiveness of specific materials, methods or resources these resources should already be embedded into the course and so on.
