Project A: The internal economy of the university and its impact on interdisciplinary teaching and learning

The researcher(s) will investigate how the organisational and financial structures of individual higher education institutions impact upon interdisciplinary teaching and learning. This will include an investigation of the design of single, joint and combined courses and a consideration of the institutional practices and pedagogic beliefs that encourage or discourage an interdisciplinary student experience.

Project B: A literature review of interdisciplinary teaching and learning

The successful bidder will write a review of the literature on interdisciplinary teaching and learning in higher education. The review will examine theory and practice in a comparative international context and will make recommendations for good practice in the UK.

The projects will run from 1 March 2006 until 30 September 2006. Applications must be made by application form and arrive by mail and signed by an appropriate HoD/ other senior manager by 20 January 2006. Please also send an electronic copy to John Canning j.canning@soton.ac.uk. Applicants will be informed of the outcome of their bid in mid February. Overheads are not included.
