I will review searches for physics beyond the Standard Model performed with data from the CMS detector at the LHC. There will be particular emphasis on the searches for dark matter that have garnered a lot of interest in the theory and experimental community and the complementarity of these searches with the direct detection experiments. I will also review other exotics searches including heavy gauge bosons and vector-like quarks.
