In the first part of the talk, we review the relationship between BMS symmetries of d=4 asymptotically flat spacetimes with Weinberg's and Cachazo-Strominger's soft theorems, emphasizing the role of the asymptotic phase space. We move then to the largely unexplored higher dimensional case, highlight its issues, and propose potential general solutions of them.
