The top quark is now well-characterized as the heaviest fundamental particle in the particle physicist's Standard Model, weighing as much as a gold atom. Beyond the mere awe of this fact, there are crucial implications to this unique property. This story is strictly intertwined with the one of the recently discovered Higgs boson. How the top quark heaviness modifies our understanding of the Higgs boson? Is the top quark - and possibly the Higgs boson - the lightest of a set of even more massive particles, that is hiding just around the corner? In this seminar, I will present some recent experimental results from the Large Hadron Collider CMS experiment, and discuss how the top quark and the Higgs boson might team up, to bring us surprising revelations in the very near future.
