When calculating scattering amplitudes in gauge theory there seems to be a preferred basis of functions called Multiple polylogarithms that generalize the logarithms and dilogarithms. I shall give an introduction to these functions and go through two applications at 5 points and 7 points, as well as putting these examples within the wider context of scattering amplitudes in N=4 SYM.
