Using the Exact Renormalisation Group (ERG) it is possible to show, within the local potential approximation, that near the fixed points of an O(N)-invariant scalar field theory there exist non-polynomial eigen-operators. We re-derive this result, present the implications these operators would have in a wider context and then show through their non-perturbative behaviour that they cannot describe a physical theory.
