After a brief overview of the tools that are used to connect collider data to the fundamental Lagrangian of particle physics, I will examine what we know about parton showers, and discuss some first insights that arise from the analysis of the logarithmic accuracy of parton showers that we carried out in arXiv:1805.09327.
