Title:
Degenerate Vacua in the Standard Model
Abstract:
The so-called Multiple Point Principle, according to which there exist
several vacua with the same energy density, will be introduced
and applied to the Standard Model. In particular the prediction
for the top quark and Higgs masses from the assumed existence
of a degenerate vacuum near the Planck scale will be discussed.
More speculatively the possible existence of another weak scale
degenerate vacuum, caused by the condensation of an exotic
bound state, will be considered. Its implications for a resolution
of the hierarchy problem and a Standard Model based dark matter
model will be presented.
