Ernesto Che Guevara

Ernesto Guevara was nicknamed ‘Che’ meaning Buddy. Although he was Argentinian, Che was considered an honourary Cuban. He started out as a doctor but gained a revolutionary consciousness in his travels around South America where he was exposed to the brutal conditions and exploitation of the poor. The film ‘the motorcycle diaries’ captures this period. Che met Fidel Castro in Mexico in 1955 and was immediately taken with Fidel Castro and joined his 26th July movement to take up the cause of liberation for Cuba. Che proved himself an excellent and brave military asset, and soon rose to the rank of Commander and played a key role in the success of the revolution. He stayed on to help run Cuba until he decided he could better serve his revolutionary ideals by going to Bolivia to rebel against the oppressive Bolivian government. He was shot in Bolivia on 9th October 1967. There are many resources on the web for more details so explore Google to find out more.
