Haydee Santamaria

Haydee Santamaria was part of the 26th July movement, and continued to fight alongside Fidel in the women’s battalion, and then to serve the revolution after victory – see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hayd%C3%A9e_Santamar%C3%ADa

Haydee’s brother Abel was imprisoned, tortured, and executed on the same day as the attack. It is said that she refused to give away the rebel’ positions under torture. Even when they bought her the eye of her brother, she apparently said that ‘if he did not talk and you took his eye, then I will not talk either’
