Gala event

Musicians

What a spectacular evening! Well done to all those involved in our gala event on Sunday evening, particularly our wonderful performers from Redbridge School, Havering Sixth Form College, Bitterne Park School, Dr Challoner’s School and Epsom College. Special congratulations go to Alfie Aukett from Epsom College for his winning song ‘Hasta La Victoria’ – a spectacular performance which left the audience and judges with goosebumps! You can listen to the live performance of his winning entry here:

The judges all agreed that each song deserved a place in the musical, as in their own ways each contributed something different to the story of Fidel Castro and Cuba. You can listen to some extracts of the top four songs in the video below. In order they are:
1st place: ‘Hasta La Victoria’ by Alfie Aukett (Epsom College)
2nd place: ‘Revolution by the people’ by Amanda Ward (Havering 6th form college)
3rd place: ‘I heard’ by Zachariah Yarrow and Joshua Robey (Dr Challoner’s School)
4th place: ‘Moving like that’ by Maria Morais, Tia Conti, Faith Chandler and Olivia Holmes (Redbridge Community School)
5th place: ‘500,000 Cubans’ by Ed Clark (Bitterne Park School) – our MP3 recording of Ed’s song is a bit muffled so we haven’t included it for now, but we’ll hopefully be able to upload something soon

The top four songs, in order: Hasta la Victoria; Revolution by the People; I Heard; Moving Like That

A great time was had by all. At the end of the evening several audience members described their experience of the event on Facebook:
